just COULDN'T help myself....every time I walked by those apples they just called out to me so I grabbed one of those PERFECT looking Gala's and devoured it! You should too, they were FANTASTIC! yummmmmm
FYI: Apples are measured by sweetness. The sweeter they are the higher the "brick" weight. ( don't ask me where they get this verbiage...). Organic apples have much higher brick weight than a conventional ones. Our organic apples come from two suppliers who have much higher standards than many, and therefore have the highest brick weights so enjoy!
Attached are the recipes from Tuesday's Asian class, enjoy! We now have organic wonton wraps, and organic egg roll wraps! Remember, wontons you can heat in water, so not oil! Egg rolls can by "fried" in a little oil and not deep fried as well! Our curry pastes, fish sauce and Thai condiments will be back in stock on Wednesday, sorry we ran low....darn lady who orders......
NEW ITEMS: Earl Grey Tea with Lavender. Natural Cheesecloth and baking cups, Sardines in oil, Sardines with mustard, sardines in water. Kumquats!!!! Karen's favorite citrus!!!! ( you pop the whole thing in your mouth...yum!), Dr. Kracker's Organic Artisan Crackers: Sunflower Cheddar and Klassic Three Seed, and Seeded Spelt! GREAT with raw cheese!, Pamela's has two new Organic cookies GF and DF: Chocolate Chuck Pecan Shortbread and Dark Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Mrs. Myers Laundry soaps and softeners.....GREAT scents and they work wonderful! FRESH RADISHES, FRESH KALE, FRESH CHARD< FRESH ITALIAN PARSLEY ( heck only .99 a bunch!) and beautiful produce!
ZUZU'S PIZZA"S TO GO! Yes, you read that correct, take them home and enjoy them! Find them in the freezer!

Saturday, February 21, 2009
We will be open today, the blizzard day, from 2-6 pm. Boy is nice to have a day off! Moving bedroom furniture....cleaning closets.....ah...being a mom.
We failed to write and tell you all the exciting new products we have, as we were busy finishing all the pizzas. (Hard job, but someone needed to do it! ) Will update next week with products.
TUESDAY NIGHT is ASIAN NIGHT! Come cook up a storm with us and Chef Andre' from 6:30 - 8:30 pm! YUM! Love these ethnic classes!
STEER: When we opened Nature's Garden we had great meat from our good ethical farming friend Rudy. He only had a few steer still grazing, as he was not sure with the cost of natural grains rising, if he would continue to raise steer. It was the best meat many of our customers said they ever had. It was great! ( for a dead steer....) Well, he has two steer being processed right now and was wondering if anyone wanted a 1/4 or 1/2 of steer. His cost is 1.90 a pound for hanging weight and the cost of the butcher is around.38 a pound. Rudy takes great pride in the raising of his steer, and never uses any hormones at all, grazes on all pesticide free pastures, feeds them good clean grain (not all organic), and heck, he probably talks and sings to them! (he's just a happy guy!) Please let us know. They will be ready for pick up early this week. (Your savings is great by the way.....)
LOCAL HONEY IS BACK! One of our customers hooked us up with Bernie Bee's and his honey is great! He has a bit in storage as well, so hopefully he will keep us stocked. Enjoy! His bees are only 10 miles away, so this is local!
OUR WHOLE FOODS TRIP was really fun! We went down to Milwaukee to scope the place out looking for certain products only to find....WE HAVE DOZENS of lines they do not carry! We have at least 4 times the amount of raw foods as well! It was great! We did find some neat lines, and bought many samples (some we didn't like at all, others we will be ordering for you.) It was a great visit. We met with some wonderful people, and even spoke with the buying manager to recommend some products for them to carry! Now that was fun. The best part about the trip was realizing that we have all the good organic lines they do, plus many more. They carry many lines that are not organic, well probably more than half their store is not organic. And none of their restaurant is organic, but grabbed some fun ideas. Worth every minute and a real pleasure meeting the managers there. We did offer one of them a job, offered to move his whole family too! I suppose that wasn't the most appropriate thing to do.....but it sure was fun! He was quite the seafood chef! Lucky for us, he liked us too and gave us some hints......
If anyone has a good laptop or computer, our oldest daughter Jenna the photographer, needs one. She is more than happy to pay for it, we were just wondering if there is anything out there that is not being used. The green side of us I must admit. It does need to have a bit of memory and at least 1 GB of RAM and be rather updated, as she plays in Photoshop. If you have something, please let us know and I will direct your email to her.
That's it! Have a great weekend and enjoy GOOD HEALTH! TAKE those probiotics and keep that intestinal track clean! ( More than 70% of your immune system lives there....so you want that full of health bacteria!)

DECEITFUL Advertising....will affect you and your bodies!
Even from respectable brand name "natural" companies you need to watch yourselves. "Back to Nature" just sent a sample in one our monthly sample boxes of their crackers. The number one ingredient? Unbleached Enriched Flour! UGH! Any bread item with the word ENRICHED should be avoided with a ten foot pole. The manufactures were told by LAW to enrich their product because the germ and bran were removed making the grain USELESS, so indeed, it needed enriching before it could be sold. The new crackers from Kashi? Yes, they all had MSG. The juice from "Adam and Eve" had 66 % juice (not organic) and NATURAL FLAVORS! yes, you need to avoid that too! Natural flavors can mean up too 2000+ ingredients that have not been tested on humans (or animals for that matter) and should not be in your body.
Sold. That is how thousands of different "healthy and natural" companies want you. Please read your labels, and realize that the marketing is no less deceptive in the natural marketplace than the conventional grocery stores. And, of all the companies in this months shipper only ONE on my desk used organic ingredients. Thus, you have modified enriched ingredients right smack in any "health " food store. Well, except ours. The OG chocolate sent from Jane Goodall has the first ingredient as sugar (not even turbinado, just plain old bleached white organic sugar) and the second milk powder - not organic. Besides GF items I cannot buy organic, you do not need to worry as we watch and read every ingredient.
On that note: We will be bringing in different Organic crackers and chips. Now don't get too exited, the choices are quite limited, as very few companies do chips or crackers organic. But there are a few out there!
So this is what we spend our time doing....so please be patient as we bring in new products. It takes time to research what we will stock on the shelves!
Sorry this is not my usual happy energetic email, but this really hurts my intelligence. We as consumers need to make and take a stand against this sort of deceitful advertising, one product at a time.
Best to you and your health!
Karen

Now I purchased sample bags so those of you who wish can purchase these one servings and let me know which ones you like! We are trying them as well this week! VERY good products from Nutiva. We also have OG Pizza crusts again, and GF pizza crusts both from Rustic Crust. We also ordered a wonderful acai supplement all OG and all of them GONE before it even got on the shelves! So, I have reordered quite a few more and they will be in next week...sorry! Gosh, you think I 'd get this ordering thing by now.....
Our Bread Pricing has changed! We will be selling our bread by the pound, rather than the loaf for two reasons: Our Gluten Free Egg Bread can not be weighed before it is put into the pans, as it is not of a consistency to do so. The loaves weigh between 1.5 and 2 pounds when they are baked. Our WW loaves are usually all around 1.5 after baked. So, we are selling our bread by the pound! Then, you will truly get what you pay for! So our cost is $3.75 a pound. EDITORS NOTE: Glutino GF breads price out at .26 an oz, Sami's GF breads at .33 oz, Ezekiel WW breads at .20 oz, Rudis WW breads at .22 an oz and our YUMMY-FRESH FROM THE OVEN- NOTHING BUT LOVE (and great ingredients) ADDED-FROM OUR OVEN TO YOUR TABLE breads for .23 an oz! Isn't life grand?! And just to toot our horn....the BEST Gluten Free Egg bread yet just popped out of the oven today. It made everyone's lips melt! We have been adjusting the temp and time and by golly, it is incredible! heck, everyone who sampled it (many) said they could not believe there would ever be a bread to even compare to a fresh WW loaf and this SURELY did! yeah! So, if we have any left....grab one!
Farmers Creamery: NON homogenized Milk products are great! Try the sour cream it is my favorite sour cream ever! There buttermilk is on order so....next week new item list.
SOUP: Well there is a ton in the cooler so enjoy!
INVENTORY: Well, as you know we have been keeping up with having a large inventory! So large now we need to sell, sell, sell, so please come shop this weekend! The suppliers are all so excited about our growth that they even overstocked us so....rather than send it all back we paid the bill and thought heck....let's just see how much we can sell! Try the OG veganaise in place of your current mayo - it is a favorite on all our cafe burgers, and on our hummus sandwiches! Pick up your miso for GREAT soups!!! Another thought on the matter: It's sure to be a nice warm weekend so come for lunch if you so desire!
BREAD RECIPE: Many of you have asked for our bread recipes, but we simply cannot give them away, and even if we did they are created for dozens of loaves at a time. Here is my simple WW single loaf recipe that is a great starter!
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup lukewarm water
4-5 tablespoons Extra Virgin olive oil
¼ cup honey or agave
4 teaspoons instant yeast (we recommend saf-instant yeast)
5-5½ cups whole wheat flour – or more depending on the humidity. (We use fresh white wheat. Wheat from the regular store may require more liquid as the flours were milled months to years ago and the natural wheat germ oil is all dried up)
2 teaspoons realsalt (discard your table salts, bad bad bad stuff. Spend the little extra for a raw mineralized sea salt and feel and taste the difference!)
¼ cup vital wheat gluten
Heat water to 110-115 F. (now... I have never really measured how warm it is! I just make the water very warm, but not burning hot! ) Pour into a bowl and add olive oil, honey and mix together until well blended. Add in 3 cups of flour, salt and yeast and mix until smooth - about 2 minutes. Allow dough to rest for 20 minutes. Gradually add flour until the dough becomes a soft dough. Pour out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 - 10 minutes adding more flour as needed (dough should not stick to your hands, but should still be soft while kneading.) Cut dough in half and shape into loaves. Place two loaves into greased 4.5x8.5 loaf pans. Cover with waxed paper and allow to double in size. Bake in a preheated 350 F oven for 30 minutes (ours was usually 28 minutes) or until golden and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Remove from pans and cool on a wire rack
