We are uploading a lot of expo info as well as our new Our Family’s Healthy Adventure page! We wrote a bit about our daily diet and offer a few tips and recipes as well. We have posted our new labels on the shop shop shop page and a new expo letter on the expo area.

Superfood Update

We have all been patiently waiting for our superfood to arrive. It appears our organic rose hips were customarily shipped with other shipments and the earthquake threw all of that off so…….we should have hundreds of pounds of our greens within days now, and they have new labels too! We apologize for this long delay, but know we would NOT lower our standards. We could have ordered other rose hips in, but they would not have been the same quality we have been using. Integrity….it is earned when no one is watching you know!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

We NEED many volunteers for the 24th of April! All volunteers will receive free admission to the expo and dance. Shifts will run from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm & 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
Please let me know if you are interested. The areas we need help are the following: Manning an emergency preparedness booth, helping with tickets, helping in the video rooms, helping at our booths (we have many), and working in the kitchen. We will need to hire some people for the kitchen as well, so if you know anyone please let us know ASAP.

On March 17, the Wisconsin Assembly Health and Healthcare Reform Committee passed the Dietitian's Licensing Bill (SB115/AB 440). If this bill becomes state law, it will effectively restrict free speech in Wisconsin concerning nutritional information.
What is Bill SB115?
Senate Bill 115 will prohibit highly qualified professionals from practicing nutritional therapy in Wisconsin and limit consumers' access and right to choose from whom they seek nutritional therapy. It will create a monopoly on nutritional therapy to the sole benefit of the American Dietetic Association and the Wisconsin Dietitans Association. It will make it a crime to teach about good nutritional practices or make nutritional recommendations unless you are licensed by the Wisconsin Dietetic Association and follow their dietary guidelines.
Who will be affected?
Certified nutritionists, nutritional consultants, naturopaths, ethnic healers, health food stores, weight control and nutrition coaches, church groups with a nutrition outreach, herbalists, farmers...anyone who discusses the value of food and nutrition will be affected. Anyone who is not a state licensed dietitian will not be able to fully convey any nutritional information that is not approved or permitted by the Wisconsin Dietitians Licensing Board. Even though that information is allowed by federal law, it would be restricted in Wisconsin.
What is the WDA?
The Wisconsin Dietetic Association is a "professional organization (that) promotes registered dietitians and dietetic technicians as the nutrition experts through membership, continuing education, and legislative activities". Interestingly enough the WDA accepts advertising sponsorships from companies like General Mills, Kellogg, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Mars, Incorporated. We must defeat this bill!
We need to protect Wisconsin's citizens' access to alternative nutritional information and services. The WDA has about 1,700 members; this bill would affect over 17,000 businesses in the state of Wisconsin!

This bill will come up for vote in the State Assembly sometime in April - it's hard to say when. If you value alternative health care, you need to contact your legislators immediately. Please act now to make your voice heard in favor of freedom of nutritional speech in Wisconsin!
